Our January bike belongs to vintage racer Brad Monk. We almost had this bike in our window as an earlier version a few years ago but took one of Brad's street bikes a cb750 instead when he needed this one for start of the race season.
We're happy to have it now though especially after seeing him take the VRRA P2 Heavyweight championship on his Yamando this past year.
It's a bit of a mutt with it's XS650 engine that has a 750 kit on it from MikesXS stuffed into a Norton Commando frame which benefits from a rubber mount system that's been adapted to take the vibration prone powermill. Retired racer Toivo Madrus is the man behind engineering this combo and this is the 4th incarnation of the Yamando, each time the engine angle and position has been adjusted and engine reworked taking it from 65hp to over 80HP and offering improved handling.
There's lots of race goodies on this bike including a custom gas tank and swing arm from CMR in Belleville. The suspension has been upgraded to FZR600 forks with emulators in the front and Works Performance shocks in the rear. 38mm Mikuni carbs handle the breathing and the engine has been upgraded with porting by Tim Speigleburg, a billet clutch basket, Kibblewhite valve springs and stainless steel valves.
