Early in May we had organized a school day with our friends Aaron & Katalin Hesmer who run Flat Track Canada and the Go Flat Track school. We invited our friends and customers to join us for a great day getting to see what the sport is actually like and try our hand at going fast and turning left.
We all met up at the Paris, ON shorttrack which is about an hour and a half from Toronto. The school was schedule to go from 2-6pm which doesn't seem like a lot of riding until you get out there and find out how tiring it really is.
The school is broken up into different sessions where you put a new set of skills into practice after some off track instruction and what you should be doing out there. The Go Flat Track team split us up into different skill levels and let us get to it.
Racing Flat Track is very different from riding on the road. Things like body position, throttle control and braking allow you to go faster as well as how you position yourself on the track. The hard part is putting all these things together and making it work. By the end of the day everyone was getting better and having fun despite a few unfortunate get-offs.
If you weren't able to join us this time or didn't hear about it keep an eye on our social media. We might plan on doing it again in the Fall. A big thanks to Aaron, Katalin and the whole Flat Track Canada family for taking care of us and teaching us about their world! If you want to try it out for yourself goflattrack.com does schools most weekends in the summer. Check them out!
