Round 3 came up fast this year in the 2019 VRRA season. We were back at Shannonville and Town Moto were happy to be the title sponsor as well as class sponsor for P1-350. Racing with me was fellow Slowcock Racer and good bud Cody Felton.
Last round was a little rocky with a couple of crashes for me which ended up in me wrecking my old exhaust and installing a Ripple Rock 2 into 1 unit. Didn't have the track time to get it very dialed in at Calabogie so was hoping to see what we could get out of it with a whole weekend to try and tune it.
Friday was practice and I spent the day trying to get comfy on the bike and make some changes to carburation to get rid of a flat spot between 7-8k. Was feeling better by the end of the day after getting used to the Nelson track and how the bike was riding.
Saturday we had our heat races. Cody was flying and got 2nd in P1-350 and I was going good enough to place 3rd. The field was a little stiffer in P2-lightweight and I ended up with fifth place when Cody crashed on the last lap battling for 3rd. He was ok and didn't do too much damage to the bike and was able to get it into shape for Sunday's races.
Played around with a few more last minute jetting changes Sunday morning at practice and worked on my front brake a bit as I was getting more fade then I was comfortable with on the short track and was ready to go for the P1-350 race. Bike felt ok but had a slightly sloppy start. Was able to get back in the groove and chase down a few riders from P1-Open but came in too hot to corner 2 on my fourth lap and couldn't save it. I ended up low siding which would do me in for the day unfortunately. Cody continued his excellent riding and wound up with two second place finishes. After a long a weekend in the heat it was great to have him on the podium twice. Thanks to all our friends and family, the excellent volunteers of the VRRA, Kemp from Ripple Rock Racing for all his help, the paramedics, marshalls and everyone else who had a hand in making the weekend a fun one. We had a great weekend!
