We were excited to be attending Lawrence Hacking's 2nd Annual Adventure Rally. The Rally was held July 11 -13 at the Mohawk Inn in Campbellville a short ride from Toronto.
The rally is a fun, pressure free, social event that celebrates the ADV lifestyle with the main goal of bringing together fans of offroad, dual sport and adventure bikes but also introducing that style of riding to people who may not have done much offroad motorcycling.
If you were on the ball this year there was the opportunity to sign up for Simon Pavey's Skills Improvement Course which happened on Friday during the day. The Friday afternoon/evening is a great chance to check out all the vendor's booths which include most major motorcycle manufacturers as well as other organizations who put on other rallies and races. Friday evening included talks from Rene Cormier, Warren Milner and Jonny Harris.
Saturday is the rally which consists of two different routes. Riders can choose a paved ride for those with street bikes or a Paved/Offroad route. We did the offroad route last year and had a great time so opted for that again. Yamaha Motors Canada had lent me TW200 which handled the ride amazingly. We got going a little late because of some GPS troubles but still had an excellent day of riding with Viktor Radics (Aprillia Caponord) from Corsa Meccanica, Shelby Kowall (BMW GS1200) from BMW Motorrad Toronto and Braden Tibbles (also on a TW200) The route took us on some really nice country roads, loose gravel paths, sandy hills and farmer's fields.
The rally is a good excuse to learn about some roads you would never have known about otherwise. Saturday evening wraps with dinner and prize presentations as well as talks from Simon Pavey and Patrick Beaule. Sunday morning there is a breakfast at the Mohawk Inn and a chance to say goodbye to everyone before heading off. We would like to thank Lawrence Hacking and his team who worked hard to make it a great rally. We had a great time and are looking forward to next year's already.
