Overland Adventure Rally

Lawrence Hacking's Overland Adventure

On July 12 & 13 we had the pleasure of attending Lawrence Hacking's Overland Adventure Rally. The event was a fun, casual rally where participants could ride either a street course or an 'offroad' course which was on paved, gravel, as well as some more challenging portions in sand, mud and all that good stuff.

Lawrence invited us to come and setup a tent with the other vendors at the event which included a nice selection of all the new ADV bikes currently on the market.

We got in Friday afternoon and setup our tent, grabbed some grub and went a nice evening rip with our buds Stephen & Viktor. It was really great to be out of the city and riding on some quiet roads for a change.

A big part of the rally was about introducing people to the style of navigating done in rally raids. You could either enter the route into a GPS which would be your guide or if you were GPS-less like us you'd take a printed road book and use that with your odometer to navigate the course. Saturday was an early start and there was lots to do getting ready for the ride. Got registered, geared up and figured out janky ways to attach our road books to our bikes.

The route did not disappoint and discovering these new roads was worth the registration fee alone. Some really great riding that I had not previously known about only an hour away from Toronto. Triumph Canada was nice enough to loan me one of their new Scramblers for the ride which proved to be a pretty good match for the ride and sounded awesome with the Arrow 2-into-1 exhaust it had on it.

At the end of the day when everyone got back it was great to hear all the stories, good or bad on how they did for the day everyone made it back in once piece and from the smiles on everyone's faces I'd say the event was a success.

On top of the ride which happened on Saturday there were lectures from some excellent guests such as Simon Pavey & Rene Cormier. There was also a vintage MX motorcycle show, tons of prizes and just in general a really good time was had by all.

I believe with all the good response Lawrence got from this years rally he'll be making it an annual event. Make sure you don't miss it next year! Some of our gear from the weekend. View more photos on our Facebook.
